The Adviser position initially reported to the Office of the Vice Presidency for Central Projects (CPSVP) from 1977 to 1980 and then to the Projects Policy Department (PPD) from 1980 to 1985. Gloria Scott was selected to serve as the first WID Adviser. In 1977, the World Bank established the Adviser on Women in Development (WID) position. Gender and development sector work in the World Bank originated within the context of the United Nations Decade for Women (1976-85).
